Ultra Boy Blast Off Evolvo Lad Inferno Karate Kid Particon Radion Spider Girl

Workforce : The Workforce was created by Leland McCauley as a corporate security team, after working with the Legion of Super-Heroes who were called in to protect him from Mano. Wanting a Super-Powered Security force he could control, he hired a team of super-powered beings who operated independently, including Ultra Boy a youngster with many powers, Evolvo, who can change his form to that of a more primitive or more advanced being, Sussa Paka, Spider Girl, who has long, controllable hair, Inferno, who can generate and control heat and flame and is extremely afraid of darkness, and Val Armorr, Karate Kid, the martial artist who needed the money to further his travels so he could study new forms of fighting. McCauley paid them handsomely but was very controlling. When Ultra Boy and Live Wire met, they fought and the Legionnaire was removed from the Legion for being too hot headed. Live Wire joined the Workforce (Legion of Super-Heroes (3rd series) # 64).
The Workforce acts as security for McCauley personally and for McCauley's property holdings worldwide, and since McCauley trusts no one other than himself to protect his property, he has, from the start, insisted on personally leading the team in battle by remote communication. This has hampered the team's fighting ability, as in one case where White Triangle agents stole a warehouse full of weaponry to use in freeing criminals from Planet Hell (Legionnaires # 21). The Workforce, due to McCauley's micro-management, let the weapons get away from them, but they followed the thieves to Planet Hell, where they met up with the Legion and prevented both a massive jailbreak and the death of all those on the planet (Legion of Super-Heroes (3rd series) # 65, Legionnaires # 22). McCauley also occasionally uses the Work Force's powers to actually perform tasks for him, such as the deforestation of an area that McCauley had wanted to develop (Inferno # 3).
The Legion and Workforce have a friendly relationship with a few personal exceptions. However, the Legionnaires are often appalled by McCauley's shady business dealings and how the Workforcers tolerate working for him. Live Wire, in fact, quit the Workforce after McCauley's dealings with the White Triangle were revealed (Legionnaires # 26). The Workforce, though, came through as allies to the Legion during the Daxamite White Triangle invasion of Earth (Legionnaires Annual # 2) and mourned the death of Apparition alongside the Legion, even though it meant Ultra Boy's departure from the team to attempt to live up to her ideals (Legion of Super-Heroes (3rd series) # 72).
The Workforce was also called upon to investigate the loss of power on Gallan after Doctor Regulus landed there, and the Legion helped them on that mission as well (Legionnaires # 39). Karate Kid and Inferno helped the Legion defeat Doctor Regulus (Legion of Super-Heroes (3rd series) # 83) and were transported back to Earth with the Legionnaires by the Emerald Eye-controlled Shrinking Violet. After Vi sent the two of them back to McCauley's Earth headquarters (Legionnaires # 40), Inferno, curious about what happened to the Legion, left them to investigate, getting herself fired by McCauley in the process (Legion of Super-Heroes (3rd series) # 84).
