The Fatal Five : The Fatal Five was actually created by The Legion of Super Heroes. when a Sun Eater was reported headed toward our galaxy, an under staffed Legion could only muster Fice Legionnaires. They recruited five of the most powerful and dangerous villains in the galaxy and offered them full pardons in return for their aid in defeating the terrible menace. The villains accepted and christened themselves The Fatal Five. They managed to defeat the menace but at teh cost of Ferro Lad's life. Instead of going straight, however, they re-formed under Tharok and and chose to continue their evil ways.
The original members of The Fatal Five remained togetehr for many years, always trying to take over planets and become their rulers. Their plans were finally destroyed when a clone of Tharok; The dark Man, seemingly killed Tharok and the remaining members were inprisoned. Later Validus was freed by Ol-Vir working under Darkseid. Around this time Validus vanished and Saturn Girl's baby was returned to her.
When chance allowed them to escape Emerald Empress and Persuader formed a new Fatal Five, adding Flare, Caress and Mentalla to their ranks. Mentalla betrayed the Fatal Five, having joined, trying to impress The Legion and earn a place amoung their ranks. Emerald Empress killed her for her betrayal.
