PRELUDE : Thunderbolt spends the day after Halloween studying botanical reports on succulents and jungle plants as well as several books dealing with gemology, looking for items that might be of value in the Galactic Commonwealth. She then visits the botanical Gardens and consults with Dr. Herbert Stiller.
Light Sabre, in civilian garb, visits the ASU campus, and considers signing up in January for the next session. He audits an electronics class and by the end of the day has decided to major in Communication Engineering with a minor in Computer Science.
Singularity, in his Ralph Cramdon identity, attends a Mutant Rights Rally with his long-time friend; Rhonda Evans. He feels that since his power emhancement, that he has not paid enough attention to the oppression of mutants. Rhonda is in an exuberant mood even though her wheelchair has a hard time dealing with the sidewalks and curbs.

As the group of almost fifty activists gather in the parking lot of a hotel near 1600 E. Campbell, Ralph notices a protuberence sticking from a 3rd story window. With only limited powers in this identity, Ralph none-the-less levitates into the air and slowly flies toward the window.
A rifle shot suddenly shatters the peace! Ralph's last memory is a fleeting glimpse of a telephoto lens. He does not see the rifle that strikes him down. Ralph falls, bloody and unconscious to the hard pavement below. Three more rifle shots ring out and panic ensues.

Ralph awakens in an ambulance as the medic tries to fasten an oxygen mask to his face. Another medic has removed his shirt and is trying to staunch the flow of blood. Ralph tries say that he will be all right but his words are slurred and weak. The wound is a hair's breadth from being fatal.
His super-human physiology has reasserted itself by the time the ambulance has reached the hospital and the attendants watch in disbelief as he rises shakily and walks into the hospital under his own power. The doctors swarm around him, yelling at the ambulance medics and trying to get Ralph to lie down. The doctors demand to examine him and Ralph finally relents after they tell him that the police are on the way to debrief him. He explains that he is a mutant and has extraordinary healing powers.
When the police arrive they tell Ralph that two other people were killed in the shooting besides himself and that a total of four shots were fired. They blame an Anti-Mutant group but also seem to infer that Ralph sparked the incident by using his powers in public.

The doctors examine Ralph's X-Rays and dress his wound and are in a state of disbelief over his phenomenal recovery. They have recovered several bullet fragments and show them to Ralph. They are ceramic in nature and thus, show up poorly in an X-Ray. There are still several bullet fragments in Ralph's chest that are slowly working their way to the surface. Ralph's physiology has allowed him to heal wounds in four hours that would normally have taken a month.
Unfortunately, the remaining fragments will keep his wound from healing completely for several days.
The police continue to question Ralph until finally Ralph has had enough and changes into Singularity. He uses his Federal Police Powers to trump their authority. He questions them about Rhonda's safety but they have no info on her being among the injured.
Leaving the hospital, Singularity quickly checks out the shooting site but finds nothing. The room was vacant except for several strange shell casings made of non-metallic material.

Flying to Rhonda's house, he is relieved to find her home and safe. She is, however, very upset over the deaths of two of the activists and asks Ralph to help her buy a gun. Ralph protests that the Mutant Rights Group is a peaceful group and has been since their days in college. Rhonda replies that she intends only to use the gun if violence is used against her or her friends. Ralph continues to try and talk her out of this decision.
Rhonda turns on Ralph and asks him if he finds peace much use in his battles against super-villains. "If you won't help me, I'll find someone who will!", she cries. Ralph takes her to an upscale gun dealer and is surprised when she selects a high powered, small caliber pistol with a laser sight. He arranges for her to take gun training classes while she waits for the gun registration.

THE ADVENTURE : The following day is scheduled for the group to gather at the Asteroid Base to check up on the progress of the Shi'ar Repair Robot in rebuilding their base. With Nemesis' assistance, Light Sabre, Singularity and Thunderbolt have been taking turns staying at the base since its defenses are no longer active.
Thunderbolt and Light Sabre arrive followed shortly by Singularity. He moves stiffly but otherwise shows no signs of his wounds. The three heroes study the robot's progress and discuss the priority of the systems it is to construct.

Singularity briefs the group about the shooting. Thunderbolt uses her FBI contacts to check for updates on the investigation but finds little activity. She does come across a report that sparks her interest, however. During a routine sweep of the nearby buildings in the area, a house-maid reported seeing someone in a yellow & black uniform in one of the rooms as well as several high-tech gadgets laying on a bed as she passed by the door.
Thunderbolt reads the report and finds that the agent in charge is Mike Spoon, an unimaginative agent, more a bureaucrat than an investigator. Thunderbolt contacts Agent Spoon and learns that two of his agents have not reported in since early this morning - the same two sent to investigate the maid's story. Agent Spoon is getting a court order and plans on having two more agents take up surveillance posts at noon.
Passing along this information, the group decide to investigate on their own. Agent Spoon tells them that they have two hours before the FBI will take charge.

Flying to the hotel, the group make no attempt at stealth and cause two minor traffic accidents as they land on the street and enter the hotel. A group of people have spotted the heroes and start to gather outside. Questioning the hotel manager, the group discover that the hotel maid who saw the strange black and yellow garbed figure and the gadgets has gone missing. Her name is Rachel Rodriguez.
Light Sabre leaves the hotel and takes up position on a building next to the hotel. Thunderbolt turns invisible and investigates the second floor of the hotel. She finds the maid's cart but can find no sign of her or the two missing agents. Light Sabre uses his powers to pick up audio from catching reflected light off the hotel windows. He picks up a conversation that suggests that someone is watching Thunderbolt and Singularity, listening to their every word and reporting it to two individuals in room 2C. Another person that they call Donny seems to be watching Light Sabre outside the hotel.

Light Sabre uses his comm-unit to request a Mind Link with Thunderbolt. He then reports fully what he has found. Thunderbolt and Singularity surreptitiously look around but can not spot anyone spying on them.
The two males in room 2C discuss what to do. Light Sabre uses his powers to look through the walls and sees Constrictor and Boomerang as well as the maid tied up in a chair and gagged. A pile of clothes takes up another chair. The villains open a closet door to reveal the two unconscious agents in their underclothes. The villains decide to "dump the bodies". Constrictor grabs the two agents while Boomerang throws the maid over his shoulder.
Alerting Thunderbolt and Singularity, Light Sabre throws caution to the wind since he fears for the lives of the maid and agents. Streaking to the 2nd floor window leading to the hallway, Light Sabre is attacked from behind by a blast of freezing cold! It barely misses him and he ignores it!

Constrictor kicks in a hotel room door and, pausing a moment to snap a strange device to the handcuffs holding the agents, tosses the two still forms into the room. He turns in time to see Light Sabre smash through the window and order him to surrender.
Thunderbolt and Singularity circle around the building and smash through another window down the hall. Boomerang whirls to confront them!
Flying past Constrictor, Light Sabre grabs Rachel from Boomerang and cloaks her in a protective force field. Constrictor lashes our with his adamantium whips and leaves a bloody welt on Light Sabre's shoulder, his force field conferring protection only on the maid.

Boomerang reacts with lightning reflexes and tosses a screamer-rang at Light Sabre who is blinded and deafened. Tuning his senses into the radio range, Light Sabre smashes open a door and uses telekinesis to deposit Rachel gently and safely on a bed inside the room.
Singularity tries to catch Constrictor in a Gravity Field but misses. Thunderbolt targets Constrictor with a Thunderclap but misses.

Boomerang throws a boomerang at the heroes that explodes in a fiery inferno. Light Sabre catches the brunt of the blast and is knocked halfway through a wall where he falls to the floor unconscious.
Constrictor detaches a cable and criss-crosses the hallway with it while Thunderbolt uses her powers to summon rain to extinguish the fire. Darting to the window, Boomerang leaps through and lands on a bridge of ice that has formed between the buildings.

While Light Sabre tries to break through the cables criss-crossing the hallway, Singularity and Thunderbolt exit the building the way they came. Singularity sights Boomerang. The villain throws a razor-rang at Singularity but the mutant hero reflects the deadly missile back at Boomerang! Caught unawares, Boomerang is injured and staggered!
Thunderbolt sights Constrictor but as she prepares to challenge him, Yellowjacket suddenly appears next to her and hits her with a venom blast! Thunderbolt is caught off-guard and thrown across the street in a spasm of searing pain. She crashes to the pavement; unconscious.

Clutching his side, Boomerang throws an explosive boomerang at Singularity. It explodes in a fiery blossom but Singularity shrugs off the attack and responds with a Gravity Blast that catapults Boomerang across the parking lot where he smashes into an SUV. Singularity is dismayed at the terrible power of his attack and Rhonda's words about him using deadly force rings in his mind.
Yellowjacket shrinks and flees the area. Blizzard has long since sought cover and slips into the shadows. Constrictor slips into a nearby building while Singularity rushes to Boomerang to examine the extent of the villain's wounds.

Thunderbolt recovers and joins Singularity. They perform first aid on the villain and strip him of his deadly boomerangs.
Light Sabre recovers and goes to check on the two FBI agents. He examines the device attached to the handcuffs but backs off when it starts to squeal when he nears it. It seems to have some type of proximity alarm. Calling in Thunderbolt to assist, the heroes examine the device and try to figure out how to remove it safely.

As they study it, a 30 second count-down starts and Light Sabre decides to carry the agents and the device high into the air and away from the hotel. Using his Security Systems skills, Light Sabre detects a slot and looks vainly around for something thin to use as a key. Thunderbolt pulls out her laminated FBI ID badge and folds it over. Light Sabre uses it to open the device with only seconds to spare!
The device is lacking explosives but could easily been filled with C-4 or other plastic explosives. It was merely a diversion. Thunderbolt frees the FMI agents and flies them to the hospital.
Singularity turns Boomerang over to the FBI agents who finally arrive on the scene. Light Sabre flies up to the hotel where he is greeted by Rachel Rodriguez who throws herself into his arms.

Examining the device, the heroes find a strange logo inscribed into the metal. It appears to be a diamond shape inside a circle. Studying it closely, they deduce that it is actually a W and an M - the signature of The Weapons Master!
Investigation reveals that the four villains were not involved in the murder attempt on Singularity but were, instead, planning on hitting a nearby facility and obtaining some classified cybernetic device for The Weapons Master.
