THE ADVENTURE : A passenger jet circles over Phoenix with only 15 minutes of fuel remaining. Sporatic communications with the pilot indicate that super- powered terrorists have taken over the plane. The authorities believe that the terrorists are after a shipment of diamonds being shipped on the flight. The jet aircraft carries 120 passengers.
      Dark Blade and Maelstrom are called in at the last minute as two F-16 Jets are being readied in case the jet has to be shot down. A report comes in that the armored cabin door and entry hatch have been torn off. They confer with the officials for a couple minutes and then, with only 12 minutes remaining, they leap into action. Dark Blade teleports to within 200 feet of the jet and then quickly teleports to a wing. Maelstrom flies toward the plane at his maximum speed.
      As Dark Blade tries to see into the jet's windows, two figures hurtle out of the gaping hole where the hatch should be. He recognizes one figure as The Vulture and sees that he is carrying a small briefcase.
      Dark Blade decides to check on the passengers first and quickly teleports into the plane. He calls for everyone to be calm but the cabin is in chaos. He checks the control room and sees the pilot and navigator struggling without success with the controls. A quick examination reveals that several of the control panels have been ripped to shreds.

      Maelstrom joins Dark Blade and they quickly come up with a solution. Knowing that the hydraulics are out, Dark Blade and Maelstrom use their great strength to move the controls and, with the pilot's instructions, stop the plane from descending. They try to steer the plane for Luke Air Force base but the plane will not turn. Dark Blade teleports outside and manages to move the control surfaces to the correct angle. Another crisis strikes as one of the two jet engines fails! Thinking quickly, Maelstrom flies from the plane and grasping the landing gear, provides necessary lift for the plane. The heroes manage to land the plane safely.
      A man identifies himself as the courier for the diamonds and gives the heroes a tracking device concealed in the briefcase. Using the device, Maelstrom carries Dark Blade after the two fleeing villains who are headed south.
      The heroes catch up to the villains about 100 miles north of the Mexican border. Maelstrom recognizes the second villain as Killer Shrike. Dark Blade challenges the duo and, caught by surprise, they try to flee toward the ground. Maelstrom quickly proves to be faster than either and the villains turn to fight!

      Killer Shrike strikes first with a sizzling bolt of electricity from his steel talons that strikes both heroes a numbing blow! The Vulture swoops around and streaks past Maelstrom with stunning speed, staggering the powerful hero. Both attacks are absorbed by Maelstrom's aura, however, and he feels his strength grow. Maelstrom strikes back and manages a glancing blow at The Vulture. The ancient villain cackles in glee, dismissing Maelstrom's might.
      The Vulture pulls an egg shaped object from his belt and throws it at Maelstrom! The power absorbing hero is engulfed in vapors that seem to drain his strength! Maelstrom has never heard of The Vulture using anything but his wings to fight. With his strength seriously compromised, Maelstrom relies mainly on his ability to project the energy he absorbs in blasts of vibrational energy.
      The battle is hard fought with neither side gaining an advantage until The Vulture pulls another egg from his belt and hurls it at Dark Blade, wrapping the hero tightly in polymer tendrils. Weakened by the battle, Dark Blade tries to use the entangle to his benefit. He tries recover and heal some of his wounds. He also wraps himself in a field of darkness. Unfortunately, his darkness also catches Maelstrom and blinds the hero, allowing The Vulture and Killer Shrike time to get away.

      The villains split up and fly in different directions, with The Vulture carrying the briefcase. The heroes use the tracking device to track the briefcase. They finally track the signal to an old, seemingly dry well about 20 miles away. Dark Blade whirls his cape and a bat seemingly composed of shadows flies forth! The Dark Hero commands the bat to investigate the well.
      The Shadow Bat finds the briefcase but no sign of the villains. Maelstrom and Dark Blade return the diamonds to Phoenix and are lauded as heroes of the day.
