Eric Pride - Adventure Record - Caravan                       4/17 - 4/21/10706

In the morning the caravan starts to form in the town square. There are six wagons. Each wagon has 1 driver and two guards. The guards do not have a military aspect and we are unsure how well trained they are. They are armed with crossbows and swords. The wagons are large and are drawn by horses. We estimate that we can travel about 12 miles a day on the first stretch of road.
The group discuss the possible routes the caravan can take and we finally decide on the quickest route, through the town of Kedis. Eric has the group examine the wagons, horses and men closely. We keep our decision as to the route we have chosen a secret.
Since we must recover the royal plate mail from Cellian the Sage, Grog suggests that he invent a cover story when he picks it up. Eric suggests that Grog ask Cellian to sell us a supply of herbs that we can sell along the way. Everyone in the group puts 100 gp toward the purchase.

Cellian has gathered a supply of herbs and is planning on sending it with the caravan. Grog and Whitefire buy the herbs from him for a total of 800 gp.
Meanwhile, Brandon and Aurora go shopping for a list of items needed for the journey. Eric asks them to pick up a can of blue paint and Grog has them pick up two long poles.
Eric and Aribeth do another check of the wagons to make sure there is no sabotage. Eric has already bought a light warhorse to use as a pack horse. Eric then decides to buy a seventh wagon for the group and also buys four tower shields with the intention of making something that will provide cover in case they are ambushed. Aribeth buys a couple of oxen to pull the wagon. She also decides to pick up the price of the wagon.

We prepare to leave town at 9am. Grog & Whitefire still have not returned. Eric decides not to delay the caravan as the weather has started to turn bad. Clouds start forming at unnatural speed.
As the caravan starts to leave, a man staggers into town carrying the limp body of a boy. He screams that he has been attacked by the Ettin. Eric is angered that the town would not even consider trying to reach some compromise with the Ettin. Grog and Whitefire return with the armor packed in the herbs. Eric sends Brandon and Whitefire back to see have has transpired but keeps the caravan moving.
Brandon and Whitefire return and say that the Ettin attacked the farmer, killed the boy and stole a pig. We decide to keep going with the caravan but promise to keep our eye out for the Ettin since we will be passing by his territory.

The weather grows worse as we travel. We make it to 1pm without incident. We stop and let the animals rest while we eat. Grog and Eric scout the area but find nothing unusual. We press on and the weather continues to worsen. It is becoming evident that the weather is unnatural and is centered on Fairhill.
After four more hours, we stop and circle the wagons, making as secure a camp as we can. Eric asks the group to help him lash the tower shields to the wagon. It is 6:30 pm and Grog casts Detect Evil on all members of the caravan. Two of the henchmen are Evil and both are on the wagon carrying items from the town's magic shop. Eric asks Brandon and Aribeth to keep a close eye on them.
Aurora casts Detect Poison on the food wagon and Eric casts Detect Magic on the group, paying particular attention to the two evil henchmen and Aribeth.
Aurora instructs the guards in some basic training in case we are attacked, We set up watches with two of us on duty at all times but the night passes without incident.

The storm has worsened and we are all wet and cold in the morning. The group make sure that everyone has a hot meal before we set out again. The rain makes the roads very treacherous and the lead wagin breaks down but Eric quickly organizes a repair team and has the other wagons keep going.
We arrive in Kedis at about 4pm and circle the wagons in an area set aside for caravans. It is slightly larger than Fairhill. Because of the bad weather, Eric asks about magical equipment to aid against it and finds that there is a Travel Cloak for sale. He pays 1400 gp for it, paying 200 gp more than it would regularly sell for. The group also make arrangements to sell the herbs. The buyer offers us a good profit for some very exotic items but we decide to keep the tobacco and bulky herbs for sale in Aleath.
We find that there is little discipline in the camp and the guards wander off to visit the town. Even though we are keeping an eye on the two evil henchmen, one manages to slip away unnoticed. He returns later with a girl on his arm, with the intention of bedding down with her at the camp. The other evil guard leaves for town and Brandon follows him but loses him. The second evil guard returns with a girl. Eric and Aribeth object and Eric refunds the money paid for the girl's time and sends them on their way promising that after the caravan, Eric will pay for a nice party.

The storm fades away and we reach Aleath at about noon the next day. The group makes 416 gp each on the proceeds of the items. We also sell the herbs but Eric decides to keep the Tobacco as trade goods.
Aribeth and Whitefire are sent to seek an audience with the King. Eric sends along a tracing on the royal sigil on the armor we found at the Manticore lair. The King returns with a troop of guardsmen. We explain how we came into possession of the armor and give it to him. He questions us briefly and then asks that we come to his castle in the morning to discuss the matter in detail.
Eric gives the group of guards and drivers 100 gp and tells them to have a party. They are now on their own and the group will pursue other goals.
Eric suggests that the group prepare for their audience with the King. Most purchase fine clothes but Grog will only shine his armor and we decide that being rained upon for a day counts as a bath.
Eric and Aribeth sell the wagons, oxen and tower shields. The group spend the night in a fine Inn. Eric, Aurora and Whitefire gain a level.
