Aurora Ravensong - Adventure Record - Manticore Quest

       Checked around for possibilities for adventuring and earning some gold. We are told of the following: The Ettin is still a menace; bandits who have been causing an almost total embargo of trade for the town for the past 2 1/2 years; a troll who is preying on the cattle in the area - perhaps some people, too; a manticore who is actively preying upon woodsmen and cattle in the area; a tribe of Orcs who are unwelcome; Elves who are also unwelcome and there are vague hints that a vampire might be nearby. We are not strong enough to battle a VAMPIRE and we are not yet desperate enough to take on guard duty for the wagon trains to the capital. Neither are we willing to battle Orcs or Elves just because they are not welcome here!
       Since we successfully concluded the first quest, we begin looking around for something else to do that is not only helpful to the town but profitable. After a meeting with the sage outside town, Eric and Whitefire return and find that Grog and Aurora have a prospective member for our group in the tavern. A Half-Elf named Ravan follows them to our table. Brandon and Ravan are each accepted by our group on a trial basis for half shares unless the group believes that they are sufficiently useful to deserve full membership. After a meeting with the "Town Council", we agree to take on the manticore.
       Our agreement to solve their manticore problem has a condition - we must return with the manticore's body intact except for whatever wounds killed it and an extra benefit, we are exempt from taxes! The body is worth 15,000 gp to us when we turn it in. After discussion with Ravan (a druid/ranger), we journey to a Druid's Grove and leave our horses there in comparative safety before we go on to face the manticore. After a fierce battle in which Eric and Aurora are both badly wounded, Grog delivers the finishing stroke to the beast. We search the manticore's lair and find gold, gems and a magical suit of armor. We decide to conceal the armor and take it out of the area and back to the king. After collecting our reward, as a ruse, we agree to escort a caravan to the capital. This will give us a way to get the armor to the capital.
